Notter
Oct 31, 1943 — Jan 28, 2025
Gallipolis
Girree Notter, 81 of Gallipolis entered her rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus on January 28, 2025, after facing failing health for several years. She was born Althea Girree Hunt in Williamson, WV on October 31, 1943, to the late Ellis O. Hunt and Helen J. Scott Hunt. She grew up in eastern Kentucky and in Gallia County and was a 1963 graduate of Gallia Academy High School. She was the first in her extended family to attend college, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in teaching from Rio Grande College and later a Master's Degree in Education Administration from the University of Dayton. She retired as an English teacher from Meigs High School.
Girree was married to Homer (Dale) Notter for 45 years and they have three children. Girree was a follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of the Gallipolis Christian Church since 1975. She leaves for her family and friends a tremendous spiritual legacy because of her great passion for service, teaching, and ministry. Her ministries included teaching youth, leading Ladies' Bible Studies, planning and organizing youth, teen, and adult activities. For many years she led a traveling Clown Ministry made up of young people from the church. She also led a ministry with ladies of the church called M & M's (Mary's and Martha's) where they sought to provide intentional encouragement and blessings to others. Her greatest passion was for the Scriptures and even into her last years she sought opportunities to lead Bible studies for others.
Girree is survived by her three children, Russ V. (Anita) Moore, Terri Moore (Scott) Janey, and Mark (Shelley) Notter and eight grandchildren—Tiata Moore, Caleb Janey, Noah Moore, Micah Janey, Hope Notter, Jonah Moore, Sophia Notter, and Cadee Notter. She also has three great-grandchildren—Amara, MacKenzie, and Jakobi. Girree is also survived by two sisters, Jewell H. Rodriguez and Rita Sell, and very special friend Carolyn Casey.
In addition to her husband Dale and her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother (Luther (Luke) Hunt) and one sister (Junie-Faye Hunt).
The family would like to thank Holzer Hospice for their assistance and would also like to recognize three special caretakers/friends—Cherie VanMeter, Vicki Anderson, and Darlene McCarly.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Noah and Jonah Moore, Caleb Janey, son-in-law Scott Janey, and family friends Jason Thomas and Tim Scites. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Casey and Doug Langhorne.
Funeral services will be held at the Gallipolis Christian Church on Sunday, February 2 at 3:00PM. Visitation will be held two hours prior from 1P-3P. Minister Eugene Zopp and sons Russ Moore and Mark Notter officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Street Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in memory of Girree to the Gallipolis Christian Church.
