Arnetta Anderson Dexter, age 102 of Gallipolis, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday December 19, 2016 at Holzer Medical Center.

Born July 4, 1914 in Gallipolis, she was the daughter of the late Robert Hugh and Ora Hattie Lee Anderson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband of 41 years, Samuel E. Dexter on June 19, 1983, a daughter, Janet Dexter Davis, son-in-law, Frank Braxton Jr., two sisters, Janet and Joyce Anderson, a brother, Christopher Anderson, and by a grandson-in-law, Matt Inman.

Arnetta is survived by 3 daughters, Bobette Braxton and Rosann (Charles) Hollinshed of Gallipolis, and Marlene Dexter of Columbus. a sister, Ruth Jackson of Oklahoma City, OK., 8 grandchildren, Shawn (Monica) Braxton, Joel (Brittany) Braxton, Thomas (Tonya) Austin Braxton, Ontrai (Sherrish) Davis, Keisha Davis, Shae Inman, Taia Williams, and Gatian (Maya) Justice, 17 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren as well as special sister-in-law's, Earline Dexter and Blanche Dexter, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and we cannot forget her special friends and caregivers, Denise Martin and Gina Austin Braxton.

She attended Lincoln Colored School and Gallia Academy High School. She was employed as a cook at Walgreen's and retired as a seamstress from French City Industries, (formerly Hoy's Furniture Factory.)

Arnetta was the a faithful member of Paint Creek Regular Missionary Baptist Church, holding positions as Director of the children's band, member of the Missionary, Vacation Bible School teacher, and Superintendent of the Sunday School. In 2009 Pastor and Mrs. Harry Scott recognized her for her faithfulness at the church.

She was beautiful from the inside out, humble, gracious, and had all the attributes of a virtuous women as described in Proverbs 31:10-31. She loved her family and gave wholeheartly and unselfishly to all and anything that was needed. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. Her home was an open door and you would never leave hungry. She may have gone deaf but her memory, even at age 102, was that of a 20 year old, never forgetting anyone or anything.

God blessed her with 102 years, and He blessed us by allowing all of us to witness, love, and be loved by a true matriarch to many generations. Oh how we will miss her, but she is eternally happy in Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be at Noon on Friday December 23, 2016 at Paint Creek Regular Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Christian Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be: David Somerville, Blake Harris, Ryley Williams, Chase Coen, Ontrai Davis, and Gatian Justice.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Arnetta's memory to Paint Creek Regular Missionary Baptist Church or to the John Gee Black Historical Center.
