Barbara Jean Sexton, age 91 of Gallipolis, died Thursday evening July 25, 2024, at Abbyshire Place. Born December 2, 1932, in Akron, OH she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mayme Evans Abel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by a brother, Allan Lee Abel.
Barbara was a member of the Church of God AIC in Jackson. She always enjoyed helping others. Living most of her life on a farm with her husband, they raised most all their own food, and everyone looked forward to her delicious pies and breads that she lovingly made. She also enjoyed the many family vacations on Lake Erie, where they spent their time, camping, boating and fishing.
She is survived by her husband, David George Sexton of Gallipolis, 2 sons, David Lee (Sherry) Sexton of Huron, Dale Allan Sexton of Ironton, 2 daughters, Risa Lynn (Ronald) Hill of Gallipolis and Sandra, 10 grandchildren, Travis Ronald (Amanda Faye) Hill of Gallipolis, Jeremy Sexton of Jackson, Jason Sexton of Grove City, Melissa Toohey of Gahana, Brian Mills of Gallipolis, Joshua Mills of Gallipolis, Veronica Crabtree of Chillicothe, Sonita Mills of Gallipolis, April Smash of Canal Fulton and Dakota Sexton of Durham, NC  and 12 great grandchildren.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Amanda Hill OT, wife of Travis Hill for her loving care in working and helping Barbara with her therapy.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday July 30, 2024, at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Minister David Bussell officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from Noon until the time of service. Burial will be at a later date at North Lawn Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
