Beatrice 'Bea' Stephenson, age 91, of Gallipolis, died Sunday February 28, 2016 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington. Born September 15, 1924 in Logan County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Burbage Spaulding Sr. and Mary Alice Lambert Spaulding. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Clarence Fredrick 'Freddie' Stephenson, and by two sisters, Lucille Smith and Angeline 'Tankie' Hall.
Bea was a graduate of the Holzer School of Nursing, and retired as an RN. from Holzer Medical Center in 1990 after 42 ½ years of service. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by, two sons, Richard (LaDonna) Stephenson of Cheshire, and Larry (Nancy) Stephenson of Bartlett, TN, one daughter, Mary Jane (Willard) Newsome of Gallipolis, five grandchildren, Jeanette (Douglas Miller) Newsome , Willard C. Newsome, Melissa Kruskamp, Elke Brown and Shara Burgess, four great grandchildren, Kacie Newsome, Landon Lee Brown, Jayetta Newsome, and Amaya Miller, five brothers and sisters, Vona Spaulding of Columbus, Kate Caton of Salem Center, Beulah Davis of Lenore, WV, Nancy Glassburn of Columbus and Thomas Burbage (Carol) Spaulding Jr. of Port Clinton. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Saturday March 5, 2016 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 6-9 PM. and on Saturday one hour prior to services.
