Claude B. Burnett, age 87, of Gallipolis (the Kanauga community) died Saturday morning June 8, 2013 at his residence. Born February 6, 1926 in Gallia County he was the son of the late Truman and Stella Smith Burnett. In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded by his wife Helen Allensworth Burnett, who he married on November 4, 1949 and preceded him on August 13, 2006, 3 sisters, Rachael Borton, Helen Strickland and Mary Ann Bowman, 5 brothers, Morris, Woodrow, Robert, Vinton, and his twin Clyde Burnett, 2 grandchildren, Colby Burnett, and Allyson L. Burnett.
Claude retired from the Goodyear Corp. and also operated a dairy farm. He grew up on and spent his entire life on the family farm. He was a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church. He was a former Addison Township trustee, and was a democratic central committeeman for many years. He was the recipient of the lifetime achievement award from the Democratic Party.
He is survived by 4 children, Fred (Barbara) Burnett, David (Terry) Burnett, Barry Burnett, and Patty (Bob) Baxter all of Gallipolis. 6 grandchildren, Tyler Burnett and Sarah Burnett of Columbus, Chris (Courtney) Burnett, Jared Burnett, Kyle Burnett, and Caroline Baxter all of Gallipolis. 2 great grandchildren, Cash and Campbell Burnett. 1 brother, Truman 'Harry' (Sue) Burnett of Myrtle Beach, and a special friend, Joan Ghrist of Gallipolis. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Wednesday June 12, 2013 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Bob Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Addison Reynolds Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-9 PM.
Pallbearers will be, Tyler, Chris, Kyle, Jared, Josh Burnett and Ben Bowman.
