Daniel Lee 'Tuck' Carter, age 82 of Bidwell, passed away on Monday morning June 16, 2025 at Rivers Health Regional Hospital in Pt. Pleasant. Born August 20, 1942 in Patriot, he was son of the late George Edward and Dora Rosalie Wagoner Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a son, Daniel 'Danny' Carter II, a sister, Betty Jean Scholl, by an infant sibling and by a niece, Kelly Scholl.
Tuck started working construction when he was 15 years old. He worked for Carter and Evans, Shelley Company and Kokosing as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Local 18 Operating Engineers. He was well known in the area for his many construction projects. He received his law enforcement qualifications and was a special deputy with the Gallia County Sheriffs Dept. for 18 years. He also owned and operated the Countyline grocery in Waterloo. He will be well remembered for owning and operating his CB shop for 67 years and being the president of the Ohio Valley CB club since its inception.
Tuck was a loving husband and father and he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet Elizabeth Hampton Carter of Bidwell, Daughter, Doralene Carter of Bidwell, special son, Eric Straight, an aunt, Nick Briggs, nephew, Tim Scholl, niece, Renee Straight, sister-in-law, Becky Straight, his pet cat, Zoey and by many other family members.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Saturday June 21, 2025, at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor JR Vance officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Pall bearers will be: Regan Sharrett, John Straight, Tim Scholl, Eric Straight, Leslie Webb and Woody Carter. Honorary pall bearers will be: Rob Massie, Heath Massie, Mike Carter, Bob Cox, Ted Hanna, Charles 'Cap' Richards, Andy Northup, Brent Briggs and Danny White.
The family would like to thank Regan and Kathy Sharrett for all the loving care and comfort they gave Tuck and also Dr. Ayers and all the healthcare workers at Rivers Health for the wonderful care that he received.
