David Wayne Sands, age 62,of Gallipolis, peacefully passed at Overbrook Rehab Center in Middleport on Saturday May 2, 2026 to go home with our Lord. Born November 9, 1963 in Parkersburg, son of the late Frederick Cameron Sands and Donna Kay Parks Sands who survives. David married his loving and devoted wife, Penny Don Evans Sands of 40 years on August 31, 1985. He was Dad to Sean Cameron Sands of West Virginia and Kelsey Don (Chris) Taylor of Alaska, Pappaw to Jalen Cameron and Maci Jean Sands. Brother to, Doug (Cindy) Sands and Danny (Marsha) Sands. Uncle to, Joseph Cameron (Stacey) Sands, Timothy Russell (Brittany) Sands, Kyle Cameron (Alyssa) Sands, Jared Keith (Victoria) Bragg and Derek Scott (Kristen) Bragg. Brother-in-law to, Jan (Keith) Bragg and the late Doug Evans (Jennifer Evans) who survives along with other extended family members. In addition to his father, he was preceded by his father and mother-in-law, Don and Zenia Evans.

David was a 1982 graduate of Kyger Creek High School where he excelled as both a scholar and as an athlete. He was employed for over 40 years with Heiner’s Bakery. He attended White Oak Baptist Church.

In his earlier years he enjoyed motorcross racing, coaching basketball and baseball in youth leagues. He was a Past Master of Morning Dawn Lodge #7, was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He served for several years as the Union President for Local #21 (RWDSU). David enjoyed deer hunting, jeeps, golf and family vacations. He was a character full of life and laughter and he never met a stranger.

Your love and protection are beyond the stars. We know you’re in-God’s care, but forever loved within our hearts. Our loss feels way too soon.

The family would like to Thank Overbrook Rehabilitation Center for their dedication and care, along with his favorite care team of Tammy, Pat and Elisha.

Masonic services will be conducted at 2:00 PM. Saturday May 9, 2026 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home by Morning Dawn Lodge #7. The funeral will follow with Pastor Carl Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 PM until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be: Sean Sands, Kelsey Taylor, Rick Burris, David Means, Mike Baker and Keith Bragg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dementia Society of America at, Dementia Society of America/donate.
