Obituary

David George Sexton, age 96, of Gallipolis, died Monday evening December 30, 2024 at Abbyshire Place. Born October 29, 1928 in Senecaville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lee Roy Sexton and Avis A. Cochran Sexton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Barbara Jean Sexton; brothers, Robert Sexton, Richard Sexton, and an infant brother; and by his sisters, Elizabeth Alton, Ida Moore, Amy Sexton, and Naomi Ritchie.

David was a retired Boilermaker from Firestone Corporation and a lifelong farmer. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a follower of Jesus and a member of the Church of God AIC in Jackson. He greatly enjoyed the vacations to Lake Erie and navigating all the great lakes. He was known for always bringing his boat in correctly and for keeping a log of every trip. He loved farming and gardening organically and would always share his produce with family and church members. He was an avid reader and enjoyed bible studies especially on the islands. He volunteered his time as a square dance caller at the nursing homes and at church. He will be remembered as a family man, who loved life and everybody. He never complained and always looked for the good in people.

He is survived by his sons, David Lee (Sherry) Sexton of Huron, Dale Allan (Shirley) Sexton of Ironton;  daughters, Risa Lynn (Ronald) Hill of Gallipolis and Sandra (Andrew) Mills;  grandchildren, Travis Ronald (Amanda Faye) Hill of Gallipolis, Jeremy (Michele) Sexton of Jackson, Jason (Kristin) Sexton of Grove City,  Melissa (Kyle) Toohey of Gahanna, Brian Mills of Gallipolis, Joshua Mills of Gallipolis, Veronica (Jeromy) Crabtree of Chillicothe, Sonita Mills of Gallipolis,  April Smash of Canal Fulton and Dakota Sexton of Durham, NC, and by 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Sunday January 5, 2025 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Minister David Bussell officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM. until the time of service. Burial will be at a later date at North Lawn Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls, OH.

Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the funeral home by the VFW# 4464 Honor Guard.
