Donald J. Borden, affectionately known as "Captain D", age 70, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016, at

Holzer Hospital. He served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Donald was awarded the

Vietnam Service medal with 2 Bronze stars. As a child, his spiritual foundation was at John Gee AME Church and

as an adult he supported the John Gee Historical Center. Donald was a faithful employee for many years at the

Quaker State Service Station and went on to be employed by the Ohio Department of Taxation and the Ohio State

Department of Transportation, District 10 and earned his retirement. He enjoyed cars, fishing, golfing, music and

being around family and friends. Donald was a loving, giving, fun brother - leaving with us many beloved memory

filled years that will last forever. Donald was the definition of a friend, loyal and supportive. His friends will

attest that he was there for them when needed in many different ways.

Preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Sarah Borden, sisters Nancy Borden Franklin and Lydia Borden

Robinson, brothers Alexander Borden, Jr., Colonel Charles Borden, John Borden, Richard Borden, niece

Stephanie Hughes and brother-in-law Harry Franklin.

Leaving to cherish his memory are Bridget Grant and her children, a brother Ernest H. Borden; 4 sisters, Sarah

Frazier, Margaret Cook, Catherine (John) Roebuck, Carolyn Borden-Collins, all of Columbus, Ohio, Manzanita

Casey, Sacramento, California; nieces, Denise Franklin Martin, Columbus, Ohio, Harriet Franklin, Chevy Chase,

Maryland, Shiron Wright Washington, Detroit, Michigan, Kay Borden, San Diego, California, Alexa Roebuck,

Jocelyn Collins, Kristin Collins, Erin Collins, all of Columbus, Ohio, Joyce Davis, Gallipolis, Ohio, Loretta Brooks,

Sacramento, California, Lynn Borden, Washington D. C.; nephews, David (Pamela) Cook, John Roebuck, Jr.,

Bruce Frazier, all of Columbus, Ohio, Stanley Robinson, Gallipolis, Ohio, Wayne Robinson Atlanta, GA, Gaylord

Borden, West Virginia, Glen Borden, Sacramento, California. Donald had a host of relatives and friends who were

very dear to him and shared a lot of special memories, especially The Casey Family, Fred Howard, Bill

Armstrong, and Julia Carr.
Graveside services will be 1:00 PM. Tuesday October 25, 2016 in Pine Street Cemetery with John Roebuck officiating.
Military Funeral Honors will be presented by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.
