Donald W. 'Don' sheets, age 69 of New Holland, OH. died Tuesday March 29, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was Born February 8, 1947 to the late Harry G. and Iona Myers Sheets in Columbus, Ohio and raised in Worthington, Ohio. He also spent many happy summers in Gallia County as a boy .
Don maintained strong family ties with his Dad's people and attended the family reunion at Good Hope Church in Mercerville, Ohio every year. He graduated from Thomas Worthington High School in 1965. He retired from banking (Bank One/Chase). Several years after retiring from banking he met and married his soul mate, Julie. They resided together in the Deer Creek region near New Holland, Ohio. He was strong in his Christian Faith. Don possessed a vast knowledge and experience in guns favoring the Remington and Ruger, was an expert shot, and diligently practiced and preached the importance of gun safety. He was a Lifetime member of the NRA and actively participated in NRA functions. He was a proud member of the Republican Party and was very vocal about our 2nd Amendment rights and protecting our God-given freedoms under the US Constitution. He was a youth instructor for the Ohio Division of Wildlife Hunter Education Program and a member of the Paper Tigers Gun Club in New Holland, Ohio.
He is survived by his Wife: Julie Hillenbrand of New Holland; Daughter: Marie (Benson) Ruiz; 1 Grandchild: Katherine Elaine 'Kate' Ruiz; 2 Step Daughters: Katie Hillenbrand and Sarah Hillenbrand both of Galloway; Brother: David G. (Loretta) Sheets of Texas; Sister: Mary Lou Sheets LaCortiglia of Cincinnati; Aunts; Charlotte Belcher of Delaware and Francis Sheets of Gallipolis; and his in-laws: Merrill and Janet Mossbarger of Canton. Don is also survived by many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday April 9, 2016 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home 810 Second Avenue Gallipolis, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. till time of service. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery. There will be a reception at the Hannan Trace Elementary School following the cemetery proceedings.
