Obituary

Donald Morgan Gibson, 77, of Gallipolis, Ohio, went to be with Jesus on December 26, 2025.

Don was born on February 19, 1948, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Donald T. and E. Geraldine (Morgan) Gibson. He was a 1966 graduate of Gallia Academy High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.

After his military service, Don began a career with Southern Ohio Coal Company, where he worked for more than three decades. Through dedication and hard work, he retired as a Shift Foreman.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Tommy (Cara) Gibson & Tyler Foster.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Tina (Hawks) Gibson of the home, their children Scooter (Maria) Gibson of Gallipolis, OH, Jennifer (Rusty) McDonald of Charleston, AR , Pete (Krista) Gibson of Muskegon, MI, Beth (Randy) Hancks of Davenport, IA, Tina (Rob) Gruber of Joshua TX and Jackson (Starla) Crisp of Mount Sterling, KY, grandchildren Andy (Angelina) Gibson, Jeremy (Sara Beth) McDonald, Andy (Nicole) McDonald, Ryan (Tess) McDonald,  Nathan Hancks, Carter (Grace) Gibson, Morgan (Kelsey) Gibson, Caden Gibson, Ryder Gibson, Hal Hancks, Mason Gibson, Micah Gibson, Aubrey Gibson, Brashten (Leighton) McNabb, Selena Crisp, Tsion Ford, & JJ Crisp, and great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Charlie, Milo, Abel, Nora, Ezra, Rose, Preston, Lilly, Myles, Ellie, Kennon & Macaulay, as well as two sisters Becky (Paul) Woodyard and Brenda (Bob) Brockman.

In 2008, Don became a born-again Christian and dedicated his life and work to Jesus Christ. He was an active member and former Elder of Gallipolis Christian Church, where he faithfully served his church family. Don participated in mission trips with Samaritan's Purse, helped establish a Thursday morning men's prayer group, and was instrumental in creating the church's Prayer Warriors prayer chain. Church members especially cherished Don's annual Senior Saints cookout, hosted at the pond at his home affectionately known as the "Sea of Galilee."

Don loved singing in church, particularly the older hymns. He enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, including golfing, bowling, and competitive bass fishing. He took great pride in outdoor work and building projects, and later in life embraced weightlifting and physical fitness.

Above all, Don loved his life, his wife, their children, their grandchildren, their great-grandchildren and his many friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
