Dorothy MacKenzie of Columbus, Ohio died peacefully on Christmas morning, December 25, 2024. Dorothy ("Dot") was the beloved wife of the Rev. Al Mackenzie, former rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Gallipolis, Ohio. Dot was loved by all and lived a long and fulfilling life marked by unwavering faith, kindness and dedication to her family and friends.
Born in Kinston, North Carolina to Oscar and Gladys Barfield on June 15, 1927, she is survived by her sister Betty Trimboli and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Al MacKenzie who died in 2019.
After graduating from high school, Dot worked as a secretary for the U.S. Marine Corp. She met Al during his basic training in North Carolina. They eventually married and embarked on a long, adventurous life together. In 1964 Al became rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Gallipolis, Ohio. Together, Dot and Al served the community for almost three decades. Afterwards, Dot returned to her roots in North Carolina where she and Al spent their retirement years before returning to Ohio in 2015.

Dot will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
