Eleanor Ruth Snyder, age 90, of Gallipolis, Went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon July 31, 2024 at her residence. Born July 30, 1934 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Glen William and Goldie Mae Pyles Rice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Norman C. Snyder, by a daughter, Tammy Gardner and by a brother and sister-in-law, David and Josephine Rice.
Ruth was a retired owner of Corbin and Snyder Furniture Company. Prior to returning to Gallipolis, she taught school in Dayton, Ohio for several years. She was also a former employee of the Buckeye Building and Loan Co.
Ruth was a faithful member of Grace Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities, including teaching Sunday School and enjoyed attending the Faithful Friends Bible Class. She was also a member of the Lions Club, where she was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and The Gideon's. She loved to travel, and looked forward to her weekly card game and was affectionately known as the queen of chinese checkers.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Tiana (Mike) Dayton of Gallipolis, grandchildren, Allison (Justin) Vogt and Nicholas Dayton and by 2 great grandchildren, Ellie Vogt and Victoria Vogt, and a son in law, Bill Gardner. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday August 4, 2024 at Grace Methodist Church with Pastor Kandy Nuce and Pastor Ray Kane officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Gideon's International, PO. Box 1104 Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 in Ruth's memory.
