Obituary

On July 2nd , 2025 the world changed. Edith Faye Adkins, age 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family. She was born on August 17th ,1935 to Harvey and Anna Sullivan Sims. Where she was lovingly reared in the Crown City, Ohio area.

She met the love of her life, Leroy Adkins, as a sophomore at Fairland High School and married him on September 4th , 1952 which was the first day of her senior year. After she graduated, she traveled with him in the military. They were blessed with 2 loving daughters, Sue (Randy) Gilliam and Tonya (Jeff) Fraley. More love and joy became theirs with 3 grandsons, Jason Jones, Justin (Melody) Jones and Brandon (Cassie) Harrison, 2 granddaughters, Ginger (Ronnie) Denny and Brandy (Tim) Cass. 6 great granddaughters, Kaylee, Kelsey and Jennifer Jones, Gracie Denny, Elaine Cass and Julia (D.J.) Briscoe. Great Grandsons, Harley and Finley Harrison and Jordan Pepper. Great Great Grandsons, Asher Masters and Hayes Briscoe. She was very close to her 3 nieces, Jenny (Carroll) Yost, Connie Ramey and Donna (Jerry) Galloway who also served as her "travel driver" and "good buddy."

Preceding her in death along with her husband Leroy Adkins and parents were 2 sisters, Artie Wood and Glenna Williams, Brother, Lewis Sims, Mother and father in law Homer and Nora Adkins. Sisters in law Janice Sims and Willadean Burcham. Brothers ins law Clinton Wood and Bernard Williams, Niece Genevieve Yost and Grandson Jason Jones.

Edith was employed as an inspector at Talon Zipper Factory in Pennsylvania while Leroy was overseas. H&R block as a tax preparer and then retired from the State of Ohio Employment Service in a supervisory role May 1991 after 21 years of service.

She was a member of the Gallipolis Christian Church where she enjoyed Ladies Bible Study, small groups and Senior Saints activities. She and her husband were past Matron and Patron of the Ohio Eastern Star #283, Past member of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Gallipolis Shrinettes, Past President of Gallipolis Garden Club, Volunteer of Holder's Cancer Center Support group.

Edith loved life and people. To know her is to love her. She looked forward to her monthly meetings, loved her past winters living in Florida. She loved traveling with her husband, cruises with her daughters, gardening, reading, sewing, walking, oil painting, playing cards, overnight shopping trips in Columbus with Donna as well as their trips to Florida.

Her husband Leroy has awaited her arrival to meet him and their Lord since 1998 after a courageous battle with cancer and 46 years of a wonderful marriage. She will also be greeted by Grandson Jason Jones.

We think our mom and Nana would like to be remembered for always trying to find good in the unpleasant trials of life, doing good deeds for others, and the love she exhibited for her lord, her family, neighbors and friends.

Services for Edith will be 1:00 PM. Thursday July 10, 2025 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home beginning with an Order of Eastern Star service followed by her funeral service with Pastor Joe Bowers officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum at the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 PM. till 1:00 PM.
