Elijah H. 'J.R.' Estep, age 85 of Gallipolis, died Saturday November 2, 2024 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Born May 21, 1939 in Decota, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Elijah H. and Aline Grounds Estep Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by sisters, Martha Ann and Naomi and a brother George who all died in infancy.
J.R. was a retired electrician. A United States Army Veteran, he served his country 1961 to 1963. He was a member of Morning Dawn Lodge #7 and had received his 50-year pin. He never met a stranger and was very talented at fixing things. He enjoyed both making and doing puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Kay Halley Estep, children, Joseph Todd Estep and Tonya Dianne Estep, along with granddaughter, Halley J. Alberts (Fiancé' Shawn Esperti). He is also survived by his brothers, Jim (Rose) Estep of Glouster and Jack Estep of Nevada and a sister, Anita Estep of Gallipolis and his pal, Sam.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Wednesday November 6, 2024 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Unroe officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 PM by Morning Dawn Lodge #7.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Estep, Steve Bailey, Jim Halley, Bill Beal and his Masonic Brethren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude's in J.R.'s memory.
