Obituary

Emma Elizabeth 'Sis' Richards, age 96, of Patriot, passed away after a brief illness on Monday September 25, 2017 at Holzer Senior Care Center. Born December 12, 1920 in Patriot, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ada Swain Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her former husband of 42 years, Charles Richards, 3 infant children, Charla Sue, Judy Beth and John Wayne Richards, by 2 daughters, Anna Mae Smith and Linda Skidmore, 5 brothers, Ray, Dick, Chod, Don Lee and George Carter, and by 2 sons in law, Ronnie Skidmore and Mike Smith.

Sis retired from the Gallipolis Developmental Center, where she worked as an LPN. She was very proud of her accomplishments, including receiving her LPN, being a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), being a 4H advisor for many years, and was highly recognized for her Poetry and Art. She had been a member of several poetry and art clubs.

She is survived by 2 children, Charles 'Cap' (Joyce) Richards, and Ruthie (John) Davis along with 5 grandchildren, Sherry (Joe) Russell, Ron (Neil Barnes) Skidmore, Tracy (Tim) Shenuski, Hollie Haner and JP Davis, 6 great grandchildren, Andy (Mary Hay) Gibson, Tommy (Cara) Gibson, Cory (Shi Cremeens) Haner, Timmy Shenuski, Courtney (Trevor Bryant) Haner, and Curtis Haner, 2 great great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Charlie Gibson, 1 brother, Bill Carter and numerous friends and extended family members.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Thursday September 28, 2017 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Tyn Rhos Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Pallbearers will be: Ron Skidmore, JP Davis, Andy Gibson, Tommy Gibson, Cory Haner, Curtis Haner and Timmy Shenuski.
