Emma Lee Waugh, 95 moved to her Heavenly home on Thursday morning October 20, 2022 at Holzer Senior Care. She is now in the presence of The One that she has been singing about all of her years.
Emma Lee was born April 9, 1927 to the late Elijah and Georgia Johnson in Gallia County, Ohio where she lived her entire life. She married the late Carl B. Waugh in 1949 and they celebrated 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2014. They raised 5 children: Carla (Rick) Swain of Rio Grande, Jerry (Dorothy) Waugh of South Charleston, Ohio, Sharon (Will) Sheets of Bidwell, Bruce (Pam) Waugh of Columbus, Ohio, and the late Jimmy Saunders. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Lynette Saunders of Godfrey IL., Grandchildren: Heather (Nick) Robinson, Rick A (Jill) Swain, Rev. Matt (Becca) Swain, Ryan (Rachel) Shafer, Trevor (Meghan) Shafer, Stephanie Waugh Stewart, Gina Waugh, Casey (Kim) Waugh, Jeff (Sue) Saunders, Joe Saunders, Jason (Heather) Saunders. 35 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and some very special nieces and nephews. She also was blessed with some wonderful friends and neighbors. She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Guyan Twp where she lived most of her life and later when they moved to Rodney, Ohio attended Faith Baptist Church faithfully until her health declined. Emma Lee was well known in Gallia County for her beautiful low alto voice and her love of southern gospel music. She has sung at hundreds of funerals and many revivals over her many years. She also loved to cook and feed people. It didn't matter if it was her family or someone she just met, she always wanted to make sure they had something to eat.
Preceding Emma Lee in death, in addition to her husband Carl, was her first husband James Everett Saunders in 1945: Also her oldest son-Jimmy; a grandson-Joshua Waugh, a granddaughter-in-law-Sonya Swain, her 3 brothers, Watt, Wendell and Merrill Johnson, a sister Anna Mae Fulks, and step-father-Bert Rucker
The family wishes to thank the wonderful, loving caregivers at Holzer Senior Care. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be at 3 pm Sunday Oct 23rd at Waugh Halley Wood Funeral Home with her grandson Rev. Matt Swain of Green Cove Springs. FL officiating. Friends and family may call on the family from 1-3 two hours prior to the service. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Crown City, Ohio. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
