Etta Mae
Spaulding Webster
Nov 1, 1924 — Nov 4, 2022
Newport News
Etta Mae (Spaulding) Webster, formerly of Greensburg, PA. and Gallipolis, OH., passed away November 4, 2022, at the age of 98.
She was born November 1,1924, in Merrimac, KY.to the late Anna (Bragg) and Anderson J. "AJ" Spaulding. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Dan J., 6 brothers and sisters, Edward, Zeffie, Millard, Geraldine, Elmer Lee, and Arnold "Gene" and by her 2 dash hounds, Fritz and Maggie.
She is survived by her son, Jeff (Kathy) Webster of Newport News, VA., 3 grandchildren, Nick (Kira), Wes (Jordan) and Ryan, sister-in-law, Mary Emily Webster of Patriot, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Etta worked as a salesclerk at Clark's Jewelry and as a Bell Telephone Operator in Gallipolis, Oh. She then moved to Greensburg, PA. where she retired as a sales clerk with JC Penny. After retirement, always one to pinch a penny, Etta then volunteered at the YWCA thrift shop-outfitting her family with designer (?) clothes at a thrift store price (a trait she passed on to her son and grandsons).
Etta, who for the most part never drank, smoked, or cussed (except at her misbehaving son) was still able to enjoy life with a smile on her face. She never seemed to have a bad day. Etta was an avid gardener, and enjoyed cooking, sewing, yard work, reading, her wild birds, spending time with her husband (imagine that), and spoiling her "Dash Hounds"-Fritz and Maggie. She also liked her sweets and her coffee with half and half (it better be hot!).
Most of all, Etta was a great mother, grandmother, and person, who always put family first.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday November 19, 2022, at 1:00 PM. at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Kane officiating. Interment will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to "No More Chasin Tails" (a Non-profit Spay and Neuter clinic) in Newport New s , V a. Yes-They do accept Pay Pal. Thank You!
