Eugene "Gene" Yates, age 79, of Gallipolis, died Saturday morning May 17, 2014 at the Holzer Medical Center. Born August 2, 1934 in Kentucky. He was the son of the late Gus and Birchie Garrison Yates. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by 2 sisters, Brenda Hagans, and Billie Darrell Collins, by 1 brother, Donald Yates, by an infant brother, Earl Yates, and by an infant sister, Phyllis Yates.
Gene is survived by his wife of 47 years, Emma Jean Earwood Yates of Gallipolis, 1 daughter, Mary Jean Altman of Columbus, 1 granddaughter, Amanda Iceman of Columbus, 3 great grandchildren, Brent, Noah and Abby Iceman. 3 brothers, Mike Yates of Prestonsburg, KY, Tim Yates of Olive Hill, KY, and Danny (Cathy) Yates of Prestonsburg, KY, 3 sisters, Sue Bevins of Lexington, KY, Trudy (Jack) Tackett of Martin, KY, and Sacajaweael Crum of Prestonsburg, KY.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Monday May 19, 2014 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral home with Pastor Bill O'Brien officiating. Burial will follow in Mina Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 PM. until the time of service.
