Obituary

Gary Dale Rose, age 77, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday evening November 27, 2024 at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born on December 14, 1946 in New Castle, Indiana. His parents were Charles Lester Rose and Rosemary McMullen Rose.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Gary was a good student and was a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from Blue River Valley High School in 1965, and went to work that summer as an apprentice toolmaker at Delco-Remy Division of General Motors. Gary worked in the Carbide Die department at Delco -Remy and later Delphi for over 42 years, and for several years was the hourly coordinator of his department. He spent his entire career in the same department, becoming an expert in the field of high-speed stamping. Gary retired on January 1, 2007.


Gary spent most of his life in Indiana and attended North Christian Church in Markleville. He moved to Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia. in August of 2017. Gary attended Main Street Baptist Church in Pt. Pleasant and Grace Episcopal Church in Pomeroy, Ohio. He served as the secretary of the Battle Days committee and was a n active participant in the festival. Gary loved to read, loved history, enjoyed traveling and was interested in all things mechanical. He was a man with a kind and gentle spirit and a strong sense of commitment and devotion to his family.


Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rita Lyons Rose; half-brother, Dwight Rose; and his beloved golden retriever, Zeke.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Atkins Rose, sons, Anthony Rose MD (Christina) of Zionsville, Indiana and Michael Rose of California; stepdaughters, Katherine Phillips of Columbus, Ohio and Kalena Georgi (Mark) of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia; grandsons, Marcus and Brandon Rose of Zionsville, Indiana; half brothers and sisters, Darryl F. Rose of Brick, New Jersey, Carryl L Jones (Tony) of North Vernon, Indiana, Charles L. Rose (Ginny) of North Vernon, Indiana, Jeffrey L. Rose (Patty) of Fisher's, Indiana, Mary L. Mendenhall (Eric) of Eaton, Ohio; and his golden retriever, Piper.                                                                                                                                                                                                     Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Friday December 6, 2024 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home 810 2nd. Ave. Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor Jeffery Fetty officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, West Virginia. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.                                                                                                                                    Pallbearers will be: Anthony Rose, Chris Atkins, Jim Davidson, Andy Davidson, Donald Lyons and Mark Georgi.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Golden Endings Golden Retriever Rescue 1043 Elmwood Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43212 or the Mason County Animal Shelter, 1965 Fairgrounds Road, Pt.
