Colonel Jack Philip Sturgeon, USAF Retired
Jack P. Sturgeon, a resident of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, passed away on December 20, 2024.
He was born in Eureka, Kansas, on June 6, 1931, to Phylis Buchanan Sturgeon and Tivvis Hayes Sturgeon. He was a 1949 graduate of Emporia Senior High School and a 1966 graduate of Syracuse University in New York. He entered the United States Air Force in January 1951 after two years at Emporia State Teachers College. He completed flight training in June 1953 at which time he received pilot wings and an officers' commission. He retired in August 1975 as a rated command pilot. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, the Korean and Vietnam campaign medals, the Distinguished Unit award and other awards and decorations.
Following his retirement, he lived in eastern Tennessee and had careers as a Certified Public Accountant and as a marina owner. In 1989 he married Anna Lou Dunn Schroeder, and in 1992 they moved to Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It was there that he happily lived out his life. He was an active and devoted Episcopalian.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lou, his first wife, JoAnn, his oldest son, Michael, and his siblings, Richard Sturgeon and Sally Johnston and a stepson, Ned Schroeder. He is survived by his two sons, Scott and Christopher, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, one stepson , a step grandson and many sons/daughters-in-law.
Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed carpentry and building, golf, and cooking. He also loved entertaining friends and family, for which he had both talent and opportunity.
Col. Sturgeon will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with his wife, Anna Lou, at a date to be announced.
