James A. 'Jim' Gilmore Sr., age 65, of Columbus and formerly of Gallipolis, died Sunday January 4, 2015 at his residence. Born April 11, 1949 in Gallipolis. He was the son of the late George Y. and Esther B. Lewis Gilmore.
James, 'Jim' was nurtured and baptized as a young man at Paint Creek Regular Baptist Church in Gallipolis. He graduated from Gallia Academy High School, where he excelled in athletics and after graduation received a football scholarship to Ohio Northern University. In 2006 he was honored to be inducted into the Gallia Academy High School Hall of Fame. Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked for many years at the Phillip Sporn Power Plant.
Jim loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and he shared these passions with his children, extended family and his friends. He was a lifelong Ohio State Buckeye fan.
He is survived by: Children, Christopher (Hollie) Howell, James (Kayla) Gilmore Jr., and Vickie (Darnell) Floyd, his Fiancée, Kathy Ware, 12 Grandchildren, Brothers, George (Judie), John (Lydia), Andrew, Daniel (Jill), and Norman Gilmore, Sister, Andrea (William) Donaldson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Monday January 12, 2015 at the Paint Creek Baptist Church 833 Third Ave. Gallipolis with Rev. Harry Scott, Pastor. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from Noon until the time of service. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.
