Obituary

James Everett Phillips, age 63, of Wilmington, Ohio and formerly of Gallia County, died Monday June 27, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington WV. Born April 28, 1948 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Lew and Mary Mooney Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by 1 son, Brian Phillips, 1 grandchild, 2 brothers, Paul Phillips and Charles Richard 'John' Phillips, and by 2 sisters, Bonnie and Carol Phillips.
James retired from road construction and was a United States Army Veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and a former member of the VFW.
He is survived by, 3 Children, Steven (Elizabeth) Phillips of Wilmington, Christina (Charles) Adkins of Crown City, Tina (Donald) Hudson of South Side, WV. 1 Step Daughter, Melissa (Kevin) Cooper of Reynoldsburg, 8 Grandchildren, and 4 Great Grandchildren. 2 Brothers, Roger (Susie) Phillips of Gallipolis, and Leslie (Rosemary) Phillips of Brunswick, OH.
5 Sisters, Lillian Sayre of Columbus, Glenna Cox of Racine, Norma (Gene) Angel of Gallipolis, Doris (Dale) Sheets of Gallipolis and Kathy Halley of Crown City.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Friday July 1, 2011 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Todd Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7 PM.
Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.
