Jerry Rolland Evans, age 90, of Gallipolis passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon August 2, 2026 at his home. Born September 14, 1935, in Gallipolis, Jerry was the son of the late James Wilford Evans and Mary Gertrude Bane Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his brother, Charles Dean Evans.

Before retiring from a long career with the United States Postal Service in Gallipolis, he worked for his father at Doxol Gas driving a truck. He was a United States Army veteran, drafted in 1958, and served in Greenland, Maryland, and Virginia. Among his assignments was driving a Colonel, a duty he spoke of with honor and quiet sense of pride.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and of Morning Dawn Lodge #7. Jerry was a lifelong farmer. Farming wasn’t just his work; it was truly a life he loved that brought him joy. He raised his family on the farm, teaching them the value of hard work and the lessons that come with farming. He loved talking about farming with others, whether it was sharing a story from years past or discussing how the crops were doing that season.

A longtime supporter of the Gallia County Junior Fair, he had attended every fair faithfully up until last year. He spent many years involved in 4‑H, as a previous advisor and proudly supporting his kids and grandkids through countless projects and shows. He also loved camping, especially the trips to Pike Lake State Park. Some of his happiest moments were spent there with family and friends, sitting around the campfire and enjoying nature while making cherished memories.

Jerry lived a life built on hard work and a caring dedication to his family and friends. Jerry loved his family deeply, and that love showed in the way he lived every day. He was devoted to his wife, standing beside her through every season of life with love, quiet strength, and loyalty. He adored his kids and grandkids greatly, who always brought a smile to his face. Whether it was a school event, a 4-H project, or other activity he was always there supporting and celebrating them.

He was known for his humble nature and steady work ethic—kind, loyal, and always ready to lend a helping hand. A man of quiet faith, his love spoke volumes with his actions and the way he cared for people.

Jerry is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 70 years, Ruth Ann Hawk Evans; three children, Dwayne R. Evans (Cathy Montgomery), Dwight R. (Amy) Evans, and Deanna R. (Chad) Pope; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Evans (David Hammack), Erin Pope, Evan Pope, Carter Evans, Emily Kate Evans, and Cohen Evans; two great grandchildren, Kayson Hammack and Kinsley Hammack; two sisters, Phyllis Jean Niday and Joyce Ann Watters. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Masonic services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Friday August 7, 2026, at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, followed by funeral services with Pastor Bob Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the Centenary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM until time of service.

Military Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the VFW #4464 Honor Guard.
