Joan S. Ghrist, age 95, of Monroeville and Gallipolis, died Thursday January 22, 2026 at The Willows at Springhurst in Louisville, KY. Born February 4, 1930 in Charleston, WV, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Shamblin and Mary Easter Shamblin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Creighton Ghrist; brother, Bobby Shamblin; and sisters, Helen McCumber and Lena Bowman.

Joan was a toll collector for the Ohio Turnpike for many years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Monroeville and a longtime member of the Eastern Star in Monroeville. She also attended the Fairview United Methodist Church in Gallipolis.

Joan is survived by her son, Jim Ghrist of Jefferson Town, KY; nephew, Ernest "Sonny" Bowman; nieces, Jane Chapman and Gretchen Wysocki and other extended family members.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Wednesday February 4, 2026 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Bob Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the Reynolds Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 PM. until time of the service.
