John W. Hansen, age 91, of Patriot, 'Went to be with our Lord' on Wednesday April 15, 2015 at Holzer Medical Center. 'Jack' as he was lovely known to family and friends was born on June 10, 1923 on the family farm in Patriot. He was the son of the late Emil and Adah White Hansen. Jack is also preceded by his aunt, Hazel White who raised him, a brother Robert Hansen and a sister, Helen Soliday.
Jack was a 1943 graduate of Rio Grande High School. He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving in World War II, from November 1943 until Jan. 1946, he served in both the European Theatre and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and in the Philippine Liberation. After his years in service he returned to Gallia County, where he farmed and enjoyed a long career at GSI as a supervisor, retiring on April 30, 1982. Jack was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and farm on the family homestead. He was a member of VFW #4464, the Gallia County Conservation Club, and the Centerville Masonic Lodge, where he was a member for over 50 years. He was a committed member of Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church in Rio Grande.
Those left to mourn include his loving wife and best friend of 67 years, Irene Goble Hansen, along with their 2 loving daughters, Vickie (John) Wellington of Patriot, and Vivian (William) Conley of Gallipolis. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Jason (Missy) Wellington of Patriot, Brad (Lesley) Wellington of Rio Grande, Erin (Darrick) Knapp of Russell, KY., Beth Conley of Bidwell, and Steven (Amanda) Conley of Gallipolis, 14 great grandchildren, Kenzie Wellington, Asher, Elijah, and Benjamin Wellington, Samuel, Aiden, and Seth Knapp, Isaac Conley, and Austin, Ian, Brady, Beau, Jayla, and Avery Conley.
Please join the family in a celebration of such a special life at 11:00 am Saturday April 18, 2015 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Lamphier officiating. Following the funeral, Jack will be laid to rest in Old Pine Cemetery in Rio Grande near family members, where full Military Honors will be presented by the US Navy and the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday (today) from 6-8 PM.
Pallbearers will be: Steven Conley, Jason Wellington, Brad Wellington, Justin Mollohan, Darrick Knapp, and Steve Miller.
