Blessed is the memory of our dear mother. Lord help us to number our days while we are yet here. How shall we live until we die ?
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Children, and Grandchildren, Neighbors and Friends.
We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of our dear Mother, Johnnie Edythe Meek. God blessed you Mother with a long and fruitful life.
When you were born in 1911 our nation was just beginning to assume its place as a mighty nation that soon became the leading world power. The Titanic had not yet sunk. The frontiers of science and technology were just opening up the age of the automobile, radio, motion picture and air travel. They went on to produce penicillin, the Jarvis heart, and the fearful atom was split. For the first time in history man had power to destroy the human race and the earth.
You, Mother, were a descendant of Daniel Boone's parents (through his sister). You were also the great-great granddaughter of the Cherokee enemies who fought him for possession of the bountiful land of Kentucky. Thus you were the bridge and the assimilation of two races and cultures, a fitting solution to the heritage of the land by both races.
God blessed you with great beauty, sturdy physical endurance, an amazing intellect, and gifted you with extraordinary musical talent, which you passed on to your children and grandchildren. He blessed you to live to see your children's children's children. He gave your sons and daughters health, intelligence, talent, and success in this world's goods.
We want to recognize all the years of hard labor you endured to care for the eight of us. Your faith in Almighty God that sustained you through the years, your perseverance in tribulation, and the love that sustains us that was passed on through countless generations.
Mother, you were the portal through which most of us entered this world and received the blessed gift of life. We honor your memory and ask God, our Heavenly Father to hold you tenderly until we meet again.
