Joseph 'Hal' Burger, age 90, of Gallipolis, died Wednesday September 21, 2011 at Holzer Senior Care Center. Born September 6, 1921 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Pete and Annie Smith Burger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Virginia Gilmore Burger, a sister, Darlene Eads, and by 4 brothers, Roy, Lonnie, Homer, and Luther Burger.
Joe retired from the Kyger Creek Power Plant where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor. He served 4 years in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the VFW #4464, American Legion #27, and a life member of the DAV.
He is survived by a son, Jeff (Jayne) Burger of Gallipolis, 2 brothers, Robert (Louise) Burger of Gallipolis, Paul(Phyllis) Burger of Milton, WV. And by 2 sisters, Marie Sheets of Lancaster, and Irene Hager of Pleasantville, OH. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Friday September 23, 2011 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from Noon until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Holzer Senior Care Center, Employee Development Committee in Joe's memory.
