Lana Ray Ferrell, age 81 of Gallipolis and formerly of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee passed away Thursday morning June 11, 2026 at her residence with her family by her side. Born October 3, 1944 in Charleston, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Harold R. and Eunice Hornsby Alderson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by a daughter, Kelly Nelson and by a brother, Danny Alderson.
Lana was a 1962 graduate of East Bank High School. She worked for many years as a teacher and coordinator for the Gallia/Meigs Head Start. After retirement, her and Steve spent 15 years in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee where she was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Lana found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an exceptional baker whose kitchen was always filled with delicious cookies and cakes and she loved spending time tending her flowers and gardens. She loved feeding the wildlife around her home and always kept special treats on hand for the neighborhood dogs that would stop by for a visit. She enjoyed piecing together a challenging jigsaw puzzle, a pastime that reflected her determination.
She was a Life member and Past President of the Gallipolis Emblem Club. During her years in the Emblem Club, they hosted hundreds of dinners.
Lana is survived by her husband of 43 years, Stephen Ferrell of Gallipolis, daughters, Janna (Lee) Keney of Pomeroy, Mary Beth Nelson and Shana (Jason) Booher of Gallipolis, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a special cousin, Sandra Byers of Gallipolis and Roberta Gilbert of Cheshire who was like a daughter to her. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Priscilla Alderson of Charleston and 2 nephews.
In keeping with Lana’s wishes, no services are being scheduled.
