Burdell

Bidwell
Lawrence H. Burdell, age 78, of Bidwell, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning March 20, 2024. Lawrence was at home on his beloved century farm when he drew his last breath.
Lawrence was born in Gallipolis on March 22, 1945 to the late Francis and Esta Vollborn Burdell. Lawrence was a farmer from birth. He had a passion for it and took great pride in calling himself a farmer. His motto as a farmer was "to leave the land in a little better condition than when he started". He also was a teacher for Jackson High school for 10 years. He taught zoology and biology. In addition to school, Lawrence taught an elementary Sunday School class at the First Church of the Nazarene for many years. He was a member of the Gallia Soil and Water Conservation District for 26 years, during which he held the offices of Vice President, President, and Past-President at the state level. Lawrence traveled all over the country promoting agriculture. He was inducted into the Soil and Water Conservation District Hall of Fame in 2016. He was also awarded Farm Family of the year for the state of Ohio in 2004.
On June 19, 1971, Lawrence married Judy A. (Johnson) Burdell. Judy preceded him in death in 2019. The two loved one another very much and together raised 4 children who all survive them, Brad Burdell of San Antonio, Texas, Harold (Robin) Burdell of Gallipolis, Jill (Todd) Breyfogle of Bidwell, and David (Teri) Burdell of Bidwell; 10 grandchildren, Tina, Tylina, Austin, Dustin, Evan, Lilly, Annie, and Kyle Burdell, Jacob and Alex Breyfogle as well as great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Fredrick Burdell and sister, Ernestine (Keith) Smith both of Bidwell. After the passing of sweet Judy, Lawrence returned to his childhood church of Calvary Baptist in Rio Grande. Lawrence was loved and respected by many and he will be greatly missed.
