Obituary

Martha W. Smith age 97 of Milford OH (formerly of Patriot OH) passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024 in Loveland OH with her family by her side. She was born September 30, 1926, in Bowling Green, KY, the daughter of Gladys (Conkin) and Creer Williams, the oldest of seven children. Her last surviving sibling is Kenneth Williams of Atlanta, GA. Beloved wife of the late Dorsel L. Smith (1999). Devoted mother of two children, Dr. Mark (Cathye) Smith of Chillicothe, OH, and Jane (David) Bricker of Milford, OH. Loving grandmother to Lauren Meyer (Lamar Jackson) of Cincinnati OH, Cody (Abby) Meyer of Cincinnati, OH, Vicki Smith of Texas, and Kara Smith of Chillicothe, OH. Great Grandmother to Autumn, Summer, and Willow Cacciatore of Chillicothe, OH, and Reese Meyer and Theo Meyer of Cincinnati, OH.
Martha received her Teaching Certificate from Western Kentucky University in 1947. She earned her Masters Degree in Library Science from West Virginia University in 1966. She taught many years in WV before moving to OH in 1963. In Ohio she taught at Southwestern Local High School of Patriot, OH and at the Oak Hill High School in Oak Hill, OH. Her passion and devotion for the craft of teaching deserves great thanks. After teaching for 37 years, she retired to start a second career in real estate in Gallipolis and then in Florida.  She resided in Florida for 16 years before moving to Milford OH to be with family in 2016.
Martha was always active in her community. A woman with a strong faith in God, she greatly enjoyed working with the youth in her church, as well as the Lion's Club, Habitat for Humanity, and as a hospital volunteer. She was a loving person that gave her time and talent to help others trying to further their education. She was a tutor to many students throughout her years, and traveled into the forests of Florida to teach homeless children to read.
Martha was always ready to go on a new adventure. She loved to travel and try new things. Well into her 80's she was still playing Table Tennis and competed nationally. She loved to read, and could complete a book a day well into her 90's. Martha loved quilting at Bob Evans Farm in Rio Grande and loved talking to all the people.
She left this world a better place by touching so many lives with her pure heart, never judging others, and by giving all she could no matter who they were.
