Meghan Elizabeth Matthews Mauk, age 43, of Union, Ohio and formerly of Gallipolis, passed away Thursday October 6, 2022 at her residence with her husband by her side. Born August 8, 1979, in Dahlonega, Georgia, she was the daughter of Col. John William Matthews US Army retired and Elizabeth Lee Caldwell.
Meghan was born an Army brat, a title she loved to hold on to. As a result, she grew up in numerous locations including Georgia, Germany, Connecticut and Gallipolis. Moving frequently while growing up, spurred her life- long love of travel. She was known for her quick wit and her loving smile, which will be long remembered by everyone that knew her.
Her education included a BS in Education from the University of Rio Grande along with a Masters Degree in Education with a Reading and Literacy specialty from The Ohio State University. After completing her education degrees, she decided to go back to school and achieved an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) degree. She worked for over 15 years in numerous Ohio School districts most recently in the Dayton Public Schools as a teacher and Intervention Specialist. Additionally, she has worked as an LPN. In addition to her love of travel, she was an avid OSU Buckeye fan, and a member of the OSU Alumni Association and the Ohio Education Association.
Meghan is survived by her loving husband, Timothy Paul Mauk; Mother and Stepfather, Elizabeth Lee Caldwell and Doug Burkett; Father and Stepmother, Col. John William Matthews US Army (Retired), (Lesley); Uncle, Jack (Cheryl) Matthews; Sister, Erinn Cristen Klinger; stepsister, Carley Burkett (Brandon Meddaugh); Uncle, Col. USAF (Retired) Jim Caldwell; and Father and Mother-in-law, Timothy Lee Mauk and Janet Mauk; multiple cousins; and best friend, Michelle Ahlcrona. She will also be missed by her two fur babies (cats) Buckeye and Toby whom she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Saturday October 15, 2022 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Lusher officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, 410 W. 10 th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43210 in Meghan's memory.
