Nelda M. Merckle, age 83, of Gallipolis and formerly of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday October 27, 2011 at the Holzer Senior Care Center. Born October 21, 1928 in Wheeling, she was the daughter of the late Howard Smith and Mae Marbaugh Smith Becker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Robert H. Merckle, by a daughter, Sherry Merckle Gray.
Nelda was a homemaker and spent most of her life in Wheeling.
She is survived by a Daughter, Susan (Larry) Sanford of Gallipolis, a Son, Robert (Suzanne) Merckle Jr. of Orlando, FL. 5 Grandchildren, and 5 Great Grandchildren. A Brother, Howard Smith (Naomi Schrum) of St. Clairsville, OH. A Sister, Donna Arthurs of Melbourne, FL. And a Sister in law, June Lynskey of Wheeling.
In her desire to help others, Nelda willed her body to the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry.
A Memorial service will be held by the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University at a later date.
