Phillip Andrew King, age 53, of Gallipolis, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 8, 2017. Born February 24, 1964 in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late Rev. John D. and Berniece Doss King. He graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1982. He also attended Ohio University.                                                                                                                                                                                             Phillip was an amazing athlete, who also played professional baseball for the Montreal Expos. He was truly considered a "Sports Legend", a great father, grandfather, and friend to everyone he knew. He had a heart of gold and a smile that lit up the sky.                                                                                                                                                                                                       Phillip is survived by his two children, Sommer (Robbie) Lively of Gallipolis and Austin (Jessica) King of Arlington, TN, four grandchildren, Daunevyn Woodson, Braydn Simmons, Illyana Simmons and Leo King, sisters, Patricia Armstead of Columbus and Christine Williams of Gallipolis, brothers, John 'Ben' (Sherry) King of Columbus, and Elmer King of Thurman, along with a host of nieces, nephews along with many,many friends.                                                                                                                                                                                               Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Friday July 14, 2017 at Paint Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Christian Scott officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 11:00 AM. Until the time of service.                                                                                                                               A private burial will be held at King Family Cemetery.                                                                                                                           Pallbearers will be: Austin King, John 'Ben' King, Elmer King, David Armstead, Jeremy Williams, Ryan Williams, Felipe Beach and James Griffin.                                                                                                                                                                                                        In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Phil King Burial Fund which has been established at Peoples Bank in Gallipolis.
