1 ^st . Sergeant retired, Roger Franklin Houck, age 71, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday June 6, 2021 after a brief illness. Born March 6, 1950 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Denver Harvey and Wilma Maxine Rice Houck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by 2 Brothers, Denver W. Houck and Charles R. Houck, 2 sisters in laws, Ellen Houck and Polly Houck, 2 nieces, Patricia Marie Simpkins and Dorothy Carol Simpkins, and by a great niece, Katie Ireland and a great nephew, John Daniel Simpkins.

Roger graduated from Gallia Academy High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1968. He served with distinction in the Vietnam War earning several significant medals including a Purple Heart. He retired from the Army after 22 years of service. After retiring he went to work for the Gallia County Veterans Services, where he continued assisting many local Veterans with Military compensation and benefits, work he would continue for the next 26 years. In addition to his service with the Gallia County Veterans Services, he also served as a Gallia County Deputy Sheriff for several years.

Roger was a member of numerous organizations including, Morning Dawn Lodge #7, Gallipolis Shrine Club, Am Vets # OH23, DAV #141, Vietnam Veterans of America #709, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Military Order of the Cooties #Oh048, Kentucky Colonels, and was a life member of the VFW #4464 and American Legion #27.

He is survived by a Son, Roger (Lynn) Houck II of Springfield, Daughter, Mary (Kevin) Nance of Gallipolis, Grandchildren, Madison and Ethan Houck, Sisters, Anna Marie Camp of Crown City, Teresa (Earl) Ireland of Gallipolis, and Lisa (Jack) Parsons of Crown City, 2 Brothers, Vernon (Bev Hardin) Houck of Gallipolis and Stanley (Debra) Houck of Gallipolis, his Fiancé', Amber Jayjohn and by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Thursday June 10, 2021 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-8 PM, visitation will conclude with Masonic Services at 8:00 PM. by Morning Dawn Lodge #7.

Full Military Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the VFW #4464 Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Danforth, Justin Ireland, Jeremiah Garey, Kevin Nance, Todd Houck, James McCarty and Ethan Houck.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Travis Houck, Earl Ireland, Roger Houck II, Vernon Houck, Stanley Houck, David Simpkins, William Houck, Michael Haney and Ashton McCarty.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Shriners Hospitals or to the VFW #4464 Honor Guard.
