Obituary

Rose Marie Morgan Young Stoney, age 88 of Gallipolis, died Sunday November 17, 2024. She was born in Kerr, Ohio on August 28, 1936, to James Halliday Morgan and Lillian Irene Mayo. She had two brothers, James Randolph, and Howard Franklin Morgan. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Hurt, by her father and stepmother, James and Esther Morgan, one brother James R. Morgan, two stepbrothers, William and Clarence Jackson, by her first husband, Carl Young and by her second husband, Wilbert Stoney. She is survived by daughters, Jane L. Stoney and granddaughter, Kassidy Whiting, granddog, Stella and grandcat, Ginger of Gahanna, Ohio, Shirl E. Stoney and granddog, Jack of Columbus, Ohio and Carla M. Conaway of Westerville, Ohio along with her husband William and grandchildren, Eric C. Neal and his wife Amber, Kelsea Marie and her husband Alex Bentz and Mary Caitlin of Westerville, Ohio and great granddaughters Jada Marie, Sawyer Lillian Rose, and Riley Rose. She is survived by one brother, Howard Morgan, and wife Linda of New Orleans. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. She attended grade school at Rodney and at Lincoln School in Gallipolis and graduated from Gallia Academy High School in Gallipolis in 1953. She worked at Holzer Clinic from that time until she retired in 1999, except for a brief period in the Judge Advocate General's Office at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. She served on the City Board of Health, the City Recreation Board, the local unit of the American Heart Association and on the Advisory Board of the Holzer Home Health Agency. She was converted at the age of 6 and became a member of Paint Creek Regular Baptist Church, later becoming a charter member of Triedstone Baptist Church where she served as pianist, treasurer, trustee, secretary of the Baptist Training Union, pianist for the Senior Choir and member of the Voices of Inspiration. She was one of the original members of the gospel group, Ordinary People. She was a member of Yesterday's Kids, the Gallia County Senior Citizens chorus and the Travel Club and was active with the Holzer Clinic Retirees. She leaves behind numerous relatives and friends, in particular Sandra McFarland, Dinah Scott, Althea Howard and Missy and Steve Pyles and all her church family. She has recently returned her membership to Paint Creek Regular Baptist Church where Rev. Christian Scott is her pastor, and now claimed her citizenship in heaven.                                                                                                                                    Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Monday November 25, 2024 at Paint Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Christian Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery.
