SHARON IRENE GIBBS BURRIS
Sharon Irene Gibbs Burris (age 89) passed peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Wyngate Assisted Living Center in Circleville, Ohio. She began this earthly journey on August 12,1935 in Albany, Ohio with her parents whom she adored, Jennie and Noah Gibbs. She was the youngest of 8 children: Noah Jr., Robert, Donald, Rodney, Doris, Lawrence and Eunice who all preceded her in death.
Sharon graduated from the Albany Senior High School and worked for a time as a telephone operator for Chesapeake and Potomac and for Ohio Bell. She also worked in various department stores and as a secretary at Rio Grande College. For 18 years she volunteered with Babies in Need and Touching Little Lives making baby quilts for infants in the Intensive Care Units of area hospitals.
Sharon was the devoted wife of Carl Burris of Point Pleasant, West Virginia who preceded her in death after 58 years of married life. Sharon is survived by her children: Sheree (Floyd) Skinner of Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, Steven Douglas (Janet) Hellner-Burris of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Charles (Betty) Burris of Gallipolis, Ohio, Carla (Tracy) Singleton of South Bloomfield, Ohio and Janet (Scott) Ellis of Tucson, Arizona. She also is survived by her grandchildren: Jennie, Tracie and Dylan Skinner, Kaitlyn Boatright and Benjamin Hellner-Burris, Austin Burris, Michael, Matthew, and Mitchell Kasee and Valerie Potts Kasee, Sabrina and Haley Ellis and 16 adorable great grandchildren whom she doted on.
Funeral services for Sharon will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 1 pm with visitation preceding starting at 11:30 am, at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. The internment will follow at the Kirkland Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony House (a multi-purpose day shelter for the homeless) at 627 4th Avenue Huntington, West Virginia or to the Christian Church of Wilkinsburg 748 Wallace Avenue Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15221 where Sharon held her membership.
