Sophia M. Swisher, age 89, of Gallipolis, passed away on Wednesday morning October 6, 2021 at her home surrounded by family following an extended illness. Born November 7, 1931 in Gallia County, she was the youngest of 10 children of the late Robert E. Roberts Sr. and Catherine Mitchell Roberts.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Gordon H. Swisher, brothers; John, Bob, Loren, Orin and Glen Roberts, sisters; Elva Holbrook, Thelma Rees, Irene Wise, and Mary Moore; and by 2 Brother in laws; Ura and Daniel Swisher.

Sophia graduated in 1949 from Rio Grande High School, she then went to work at the GC Murphy's at Christmas time, she was later called back to work in January 1950 to work in the office. Later she went to work at Evans Grocery in 1953 and continued working there for 17 years in Gallipolis, Middleport, and Point Pleasant. Starting in 1970 she and her husband operated the Swisher Implement Co. until their retirement in 1987. Upon moving to Florida in November of 1987 she worked as a hostess cashier at Crystal Paradise Restaurant from 1988 till 1995. She attended Suncrest Baptist Church and was church secretary for 10 years. Sophia's hobbies were sewing little dresses for her nephew to help with the feed the children project, quilting and reading.

Sophia is survived by her son; William (Carla) Swisher of Cheshire; Granddaughter; Lauren (Robert) Elliot of Blue Ash, Ohio; Grandson; Jordan Swisher of Cheshire; 2 Great Grandson; Gabriel and Benjamin Elliot. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM. Sunday October 10, 2021 at Gravel Hill Cemetery with Pastor Vinton Rankin officiating. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Saturday from 6-8 PM. All attending are encouraged to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
