Susan Lee Sanford, age 68, of Gallipolis and formerly of Wheeling, WV. passed away on Saturday August 5, 2017 at her home. Born July 11, 1949 in Wheeling, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. Merckle Sr. and the late Nelda M. Smith Merckle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by a son, Brenton Lee Sanford and by a sister, Sherry Gray.

Susan was a graduate of Wheeling High school and worked in computer programming. She and her husband owned and operated Subway Restaurants in Wellston and Jackson. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Ohio State Buckeye fan.

Susan is survived by her husband, Larry L. Sanford Sr. of Gallipolis, a son, Larry L. (Bethany) Sanford Jr. of Lancaster, grandchildren, Ella, Trey and Nicholas Sanford all of Lancaster, a brother, Robert H. (Suzanne) Merckle of Oviedo, FL and by two sister in laws, Glinda (John) Bowman of Wheeling and Debbie Durth of Wheeling.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday August 19, 2017 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home 810 2 ^nd . Ave. Gallipolis, OH, with Pastor John Jackson officiating.
