Obituary

On May 28, 2025, the world changed.  Violet Emily Jeffers, age 98 years, passed peacefully in her home in Mercerville, Ohio  She was born on April 17, 1927 to William T.  and Mabel Porter of Eureka. She graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1945. She loved to dance and often performed on stage in high school. She continued to enjoy dancing until age 93.  Violet, better known as Granny, was an example of the perfect daughter, wife, mother and friend. To know her was to love her. She was a beacon of light in the face of hardships.  She never missed an opportunity to offer help to friends and family.   She cherished her family and lived each day showering them with unconditional love. Violet retired from the GDC after 30 years of service.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James E. Jeffers.  She suffered the loss of her infant son, Gregory, her beloved granddaughter, Michelle Leigh Jeffers and her oldest son, James Michael Jeffers in 2020.  She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Jeffers Metzger of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Vickie Jeffers (Roger Angel) of Mercerville and her son, Roger "Perk" Jeffers (Beverly) of Eureka and daughter-in-law, Pauline Angel Jeffers of Columbus, Ohio.   Violet had 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild including Marci (Lee) Bland (Jesse, Robby, Leah), Michelle Jeffers (James, Johnny), Nathan (Tracie) Waugh (Cheyenne), Michael Waugh (Waylon, Colton, Brayden), Tim (Kathy) Maloy (TJ, Marcus and Talitha), Erick Jeffers, Jill (Roger) Smith (Rogen, Jagger) and Emily Metzger.  Her cat, Sammy, will suffer her loss.  A special tribute to Nurse Roger Estep and the amazing staff at National Church Hospice and her loving caregivers over the past four years.  A special acknowledgement to Shelly Breedlove Adkins who has been our rock throughout mom's journey and Ralph Workman who brought spiritual support, a smile to our face and a song to our hearts.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home at 810 Second Avenue, Gallipolis, Ohio with Rev. Ralph Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Clay Chapel Cemetery on Lower Route 7.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Erick Jeffers, Michael Waugh, Nathan Waugh, Tim Maloy and Lee Croston.   In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to National Church Residences, 2245 North Bank Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43220 or online at nationalchurchresidences.org in Violet's memory.
