Obituary

William E. "Bill" Carter, age 84, of Patriot, passed away on Sunday June 13, 2021 at home on the Carter Family Farm where he was born on August 23, 1936.  He was the youngest of the late Clarence L. and Ada M. Swain Carter.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his Wife, Carol H. (Irwin) Carter, Mother of his children, Gwendolynn B. Gilman Carter, Brothers, George E. (D. Rosalie) Carter, Ray (Eleanor) Carter, Charles E. "Chod" Carter, Don L. (Ruth) Carter and Richard A. (Bonnie) Carter, Sister, E. Elizabeth (Charley) Richards and Sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Gilman Thiel.

Bill proudly was a 50 plus year member of The Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, Patriot Lodge #496.  He served on the Southwestern School Board. He was a member of the Gallipolis Elks Lodge #107 and a member of Gallipolis Harley Owners Group (HOG #3750) where he served as Road Captain until 2014.

The way he lived his life touched and impacted those who knew him, through his hard work ethic and enjoyment of life. From 1969-1997 he raised over 46,000 hogs on the family farm.  Upon retirement, he enjoyed riding his Harley with family and friends.  Bill rode over 240,000 miles in all 50 states.

Bill loved watching and bragging on his grandkids in all of their sports, hunting with family and friends on the family farm, he enjoyed traveling, making wine, cooking big dinners for the family, raising Bob White Quail to help re-populate the area, making apple and pear butter and his two dogs Cricket and Scooby.

Bill is survived by a Son, Mark A. (Mary Lisa) Carter of Patriot, OH, Daughter, Anette L. Brown of Gallipolis, OH, Grandchildren, Chris (Lori) Carter, Cody (Alexandra) Carter, G. Carter Smith, Shelby (Seth Baldwin) Brown, and C. Dylan Brown, Great Granddaughters, Alexis and Paige Carter, Sister-in-laws, Anna Lou Carter and Dr. Regis M. (Steve Hume) Gilman, and Five generations of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 7:00 PM. Wednesday June 16, 2021 at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor John Jackson officiating.  Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 PM, visitation will conclude with Masonic Service at 7 PM. by the Patriot Masonic Lodge #496.
