William Burk Miller, age 90, of Gallipolis, passed on to Heaven, Sunday morning December 19, 2010 at the Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis. Born November 9, 1920 at McDaniels Crossroads, Ohio, he was the son of the late William and Cora Mae Howard Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his Wife of 63 years, Margaret Alice Griffith Miller; 1 Brother, Joe D. Miller of Rodney, Ohio and his Sister, Mary E. (Maurice) Fowler of Norwalk, Ohio.
At the age of three, his family moved to a farm on the edge of Rodney, Ohio where he grew to adulthood. He graduated from Rio Grande High School and went on to study at Rio Grande College and the Ohio State University. He graduated from the Ohio State University with a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering in June of 1943. He married Margaret Alice Griffith in July of 1943. He graduated from Naval Officer Candidate School at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in late 1943, and served in various Naval Air Stations during the remainder of World War II. Following the war, he earned his Professional Engineer license with the state of Ohio for research and development of ordnance systems for post World War II Military Air Craft. He was employed by Curtis-Wright Aeronautical Works in Columbus, Ohio and the Adjutant General of Ohio before completing a 32 year career with Columbia Gas of Ohio and Columbia Gas Service Systems. Upon retirement he returned to Gallia County and worked on the family farm with his son, Phillip, until his health failed. He was saved, baptized, and an active member of various Baptist Churches, the majority of his adult life.
He is survived by 2 Sons, Phillip I. (June) Miller of Patriot and Carl T. (Miyuki) Miller of Tujunga, California; as well as his grandchildren, Sarah M. (Matthew Wamsley) of Bidwell, Dr. William G. Miller D.O. of Detroit, Michigan, and Virginia A. Miller of Athens, Ohio. He was loved and revered by family, friends, and all who made his acquaintance.
Due to travel schedules and family obligations, funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday December 28, 2010 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, with Pastor Vinton Rankin of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Gage, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the funeral home by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.
