About Us
Our Beginnings
Our story begins in 1917 when Coleman R. Halley opened the C.R. Halley Funeral Home in Gallia County in the small rural community of Mercerville, and for the next 42 years he provided compassionate care to his community. In 1946 Clarence J. Waugh opened the C.J. Waugh Funeral Home in Gallipolis. In 1959 Fred Wood purchased the C.R. Halley Funeral Home, and became a partner in the C.J. Waugh Funeral Home. Shortly after all operations were moved to the Gallipolis location. In 1986 Fred's son Gene entered the family business after graduating from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. In 2003 Gene and his wife Peggy purchased the business.
